| 12 weeks ago. Now my face is fuller, my tummy rounder and I no longer have ankles.... |
My little family and I go to church every single Sunday. For 3 whole hours! The Little Mister has about 3 whole minutes of reverence in him. I must admit those 3 hours of the week are often more stressful than spiritual! Luckily one of my very favorite writers from the blog Pretty Witty Cheerful wrote this post on going to church. The Little Monster Mister was particularly rambunctious today (that is actually a really nice way of putting it).....I have reread her post 3 times.....he is so cute all dressed in his Sunday best but he is oh so naughty! I find myself daydreaming about the Sunday when church services are a little more edifying and a little less exhausting....just 10-20 short years....right?
The Husband and I have been called as team teachers for a Sunday school class with six little 7 year olds. Their attention spans seem to be about just as long as my Little Misters, they are sweet and wild mixed in with lengthy stories and funny comments. For example:
Names have been changed to protect the innocent.
I was 20 weeks pregnant (see photo above) wearing the sisterhood of the traveling dress (see photo below) feeling a bit more snappy than usual. I sat down with my Sunday School Class.
Little girl: "Sister Johnson you look different today......." A little boy next to her starts to whisper in her ear "Alex wants me to tell you that you look realllllly creepy today!"
Me: Trying hard not to smile, laugh or... cry....."ummmm.....who would like to say opening prayer."

| September 2011 Six weeks pregnant! |
The Sunday before my 23rd birthday I asked our little Sunday school class how old they thought I would be turning.
Carter: "I am going to say 18 or 19."
Me: "Close, a little bit older."
Sara: "20, 21,22, how about 23?"
Me: "Bingo! I am turning 23! Now how old do you guys think Brother Johnson is?"
Carter: Wearing an innocent expression he quizatively looked from The Husband back to me "Is he in his 30's or 40's?"
Me: "mid 20's"
The Husband Just smiled and I have been teasing him about it ever sense!
We were walking into our class room when a little boy told me he needed to ask me a few questions.
Ben: "Sister, I mean Mrs...I mean Sister Johnson, I can tell you are going to have a baby....."
Me: "Yep, a little girl." smiling sweetly back at him.
Ben: "Does it hurt to lay it?" he asked with a concerned look on his little face."
Me: "What?"
Ben: "You know, does it hurt when you lay the baby."
Me: laughing at this point "Yes! It hurts really bad!"
Ben: "Have you thought of a name for her yet?"
I announced to the classroom what name we were considering and they instantly erupted in laughter (not a good sign) And being the clever 7 year olds they are thought of a couple of nicknames I hadn't even considered! They then threw out a few suggestions like maybe naming her Angel or Shalyshiwa.....or even Mal-mal....
Ben: puts an arm on my shoulder and raises his little eyebrow " have you thought about how her and Jett will like their names when they get older....?

That's so funny! Kids are a riot.
ReplyDeleteSo about your little guy being wild in church...I know how you feel. Our church service lasts for hours as well, and we all go into the service together as a family, the whole church, every age. We love it that way.
We have had to really teach and train our 2 year old her whole life that the service is very important and she has to stay there and be quiet with us. We had a little while of training and failing and having to really stay on top of her, and now...she does amazing. Of course, we bring snacks and colors and small toys and my cell phone. But the point is that she stays in there with us and if very, very good and quiet.
Don't be discouraged, it just takes work! He'll get it:)
